A letter to my teenage self

This blog started 11 years ago purely to have a place to write my poems. Recently, I have been doing some reflection, and I realised how times have passed, life has gone on, and how I have grown as a person over the years. It is thus apt for some reflective post, and of course writing it in plain prose is too mainstream, so I shall present it in the form of a letter to my younger self. This form of writing is something I have always wanted to try, and the fact that I can now try it is also a sign that I have collected enough experiences to write it!

A letter to my teenage self

It was the era of blogs. Jumping on the bandwagon, you started this blog to collect the poems you wrote along the way. It was a difficult time, but you found an outlet to express your emotions. I have to tell you, this blog was a good idea, for reasons greater than those you could imagine in the short 10+ years you have lived.

School may have been the be-all and end-all of your life as a teenager. But there is so much more in the world for you to discover. School, friends, human relationship, and even more that 25 years old me still does not know about.

So do not ever suppress your emotional and sensory sensitivities. Feel the world for what it is, and do not ever stop creating. This blog would not only be a collection of your poems, but it would also track the trajectory of your personal growth, through the development in sophistication in the subject matter of your creations, from school, to friends, to human relationship and beyond.

“Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise again”
I think you would be proud of where you will go.
